The Thrill Of The Hunt
Located in the High Sierras of Northern Nevada, we have access to unlimited open range. We breed our Irish Wolfhounds to hunt, selecting qualities for athleticism, talent, temperament and loyalty. Preserving this ancient breeds tradition, we are proud to say that we are the only organization in the US that actively hunts exclusively with Irish Wolfhounds.
Hunting With Irish Wolfhounds
Our Irish Wolfhounds love to hunt. Watching them do what they do best gives us great joy. A well conditioned wolfhound can go long distances, which is required for hunting. Regular exercise and play is how our wolfhounds keep in tip-top shape for hunting. Coming home with a trophy is not the goal, the thrill of the chase is what matters most.
Hunting With Irish Wolfhounds On Horseback
What gives us one of the most exciting thrills in the world, is to keep up with Irish Wolfhounds on horseback as they hunt. With their greyhound lineage and long stride, Irish Wolfhounds are not hounds that you could walk and hunt with, like traditional beagle hunting. Wolfhounds are designed to travel great distances in a short amount of time. Horseback is the only way to keep pace with these majestic hounds. This is not your average trail ride. We have found that there is no other equestrian sport that we can find that gives us the challenge and excitement of hunting with hounds. Like traditional fox/coyote hunting, jumping your horse can be optional, but much of the time it is necessary in order to keep up with the hounds.
Hunting With Irish Wolfhounds In The Winter
Winter is a great time to let the wolfhounds hunt because of the great conditioning that occurs from running through the snow. Irish Wolfhounds are multi weather and climate dogs. Our wolfhounds thrive in the Reno, Nevada summer heat, as well as the cold winters. Taking into account the wolfhounds sensitivities, we acknowledge when the weather is too extreme to hunt.
Irish Wolfhounds Hunting With Walker Hounds
Occasionally, our Irish Wolfhounds will get an invitation to hunt with Walker Hounds. What a privilege it is when we get the opportunity to hunt our wolfhounds with the accomplished Walker Hound hunts. Our wolfhounds learn so much from the instinctive and intuitive hunting ability of Walker Hounds and we benefit from the expertise from the Master Huntsman and supporting staff.
